Top 30 Albums of 2019

January 10, 2020 by

I listened to a lot of new music in 2019 so I thought that, for the first time in my life I would (drum roll please) – rank my top 30 albums of the year!

Yes, 2019 proved to be a very strong year indeed for music, arguably the best of the decade. There were terrific albums from breakout pop stars Billie Eilish and Lizzo. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion and goth-country crooner Orville Peck released standout records that placed them among the many up-and-comers to watch. There were also impressive efforts from indie veterans Jenny Lewis and Sleater-Kinney. Even a fellow named Bruce released one of his best albums in years.  Rock thrived as well in 2019. (Check my top rock picks of 2019 here.)

Perhaps most importantly, 2019 showed that the album format isn’t going away any time soon. Artists across all genres continue to embrace the long-playing album.
